The memorial service for John Paul Engelhardt, Napoleon, North Dakota will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.

John Paul Engelhardt son of Mike and Mary (Meier) Engelhardt was born December 3, 1938 on the family farm southwest of Napoleon, ND the 3rd of 11 children. John attended and graduated from Napoleon High School. He was united in marriage to Sharon Faye Johnson December 1, 1956. John began working for Jacobsen Elevator Construction until 1959 when he joined Lucky Family Checkbook as an advertising agent. In 1964, the family settled in Napoleon and John worked at several jobs before purchasing the recreation center on Main St from Jake Silbernagel in 1967 and the Korner Bar a few years later. John had many interests and did a good many things thru his life…Star Route Mail Contractor, grain bin erection and repairs, stock car racing, elevator and co-op employee.

When the elevators in Napoleon were destroyed by fire, John joined the same crew (Jacobsen) that he had worked for before to rebuild both. John's love of sporting events allowed him to follow his children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren during high school and college careers, cheering them to victory on many levels in football, basketball, track, softball and wrestling.

John passed away July 22, 2014 after an extended stay at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, the result of an accident and injuries he sustained while cutting down a tree south of Napoleon, ND. He was 75 years old.

John is survived by his wife, Sharon, sons, Jon and Kyle; daughters, Valerie and Deidre; brothers, Clinton, Larry, Michael, Steve, Jerry, Kenneth and Keith; sisters, Diane Vetter and Karen Lang; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his son, Marlon, brother Michael and brothers-in-law Kenneth Vetter and Wayne Lang, 2 sisters-in-law, Lyla and Donna.
