Dr. Neil Devlin, of Cobble Hill, B.C., passed away suddenly in Lethbridge, Alberta, on July 19, 1989, at the age of 69 . He is survived by his loving wife , Beverly: two daughters, Deborah Holmes of Courtenay, B.C. and Susan Holmes; son-in-law, Patrick Lenihan, of Victoria; two sons, Craig Devlin Holmes and Peter Holmes, also of Victoria; his brother, Andy (Dorothy) Holmes, and sister-in-law, Vivian, of Lethbridge; cousin Rusty MacDonald of Victoria, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Eva, and brother, Ross. Dr. Holmes' career of 35 years was spent at the Lethbridge Research Station as a research scientist and administrator. He served on school, college and university boards, and was instrumental in establish the University of Lethbridge. He was an avid sportsman who also enjoyed gardening,
A memorial service will be held at Mill Bay United Church, Mill Bay, on August 12 at 3:00 p.m., Rev. Bob Norris officiating. Those who wish, may make donations to the Dr. Neil Holmes Scholarship Fund, c/o University of Lethbridge, 4401 University Drive, Lethbridge, Alberta T1K 3M4.
