Kathryn was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren, where she served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, a secretary of the board, a youth choir director and choir member, and was on the kitchen and fellowship committees. Kathryn had been employed by Newberry's, People's Drug Store, and Taylor and Co., all in Frederick, Md. She also drove a school bus for Pleasant Valley Elementary School and the Boonsboro schools for 19 years. She served as an election board official for southern Washington County; served three terms as president of the PTA at Pleasant Valley Elementary School; and was a volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary of Washington County Hospital in the X-ray department and the emergency room.
Kathryn is survived by one daughter, Rebecca A. Younkins, Hagerstown; two sons, Ernest G. Best, Hagerstown, and David L. Best, of Kilmarnock, Va.; four grandsons; one stepgranddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Adrian Younkins; and four brothers, Robert, Joseph, John and William Kennedy.
A funeral ceremony was held at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, Knoxville; final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Brownsville Heights Cemetery; arrangements were handled by the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home.
