WORKER'S LEGS CRUSHED BY RAIL CARS

Bingham - Crushing wheels of a string of empty dump cars at Kennecott Copper Corp. open-pit mine here Friday nearly severed both legs of a workman who slipped as he jumped from a slowly moving train. The accident occurred about 9 p.m.
Dushan Narovich, 23, Midvale, was reported in "very serious" condition at St. Mark's hospital in Salt Lake City. He suffered compound fractures and crush injuries of both thighs and legs.
Physicians, administering blood plasma in their efforts to save his life, endangered by shock and loss of blood, said the victim's chances could not be determined until he emerges from shock.
Company officials said Mr. Narovich was riding the head car of a string of slowly moving empty gondolas on the west side of L level of the hugh open pit operation. As the train approached the electric shovel, Mr. Narovich apparently jumped off, slipped and fell under the wheels. Several cars passed over his legs, officials said.
Mr. Narovich, first employed by the company April 15, 1942, was given five blood transfusions at the company hospital in Bingham before being transferred by county ambulance to Salt Lake City with highway patrol escort.
