JOHN WILLIAM WHITTLE

Union - John William Whittle, 75, Union, retired employe of United States Smelting, Refining, and Mining Company Midvale plant, died Tuesday noon at his residence of a chronic heart ailment.
He was born May 19, 1873, in Manchester, England, a son of John and Mary Openshaw Whittle. He came to the United States with his family when he was nine years old. On Nov. 11, 1890, he was married to Jeanettie Mauchley in Salt Lake City. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1946. She died Aug. 23, 1947.
Employed as a stationary engineer at the Highland Boy smelter Murray several years. Mr. Whittle worked for the United States Smelting, Refining and Mining Company Midvale, for 18 years. He retired in December 1946. He had resided in Union 46 years and in the United States more than 65 (sic) years.
Survivors include three sons, William L. Whittle, West Jordan; Clarence and Inon Whittle, Union; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Wengren, Union; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Nelson and Mrs. Estella Johnston, Oakland, Calif.
