Jean was born Feb. 23, 1925, in Corning, a daughter of Ayers and Loretta (Townley) Stevens. She was a graduate of Corning High School and Keuka College, with a degree in nursing. She married Walter Glenn Gray on June 17, 1950, in Corning. He predeceased her on July 12, 1998.
Jean was a registered nurse, working at the office of Dr. C.T. Andolina in Mt. Morris. She retired in 1986.
Jean was a member of the Keuka Alumni Association; the Sparta First Presbyterian Church and Women's Society; the Daughters of the American Revolution; and a former member of the Groveland Town Board, the Lakeview Cemetery Association, and the Geneseo Central School Board of Education for 10 years, of which she was the president for five years. She enjoyed bird watching, bingo, playing the piano, and gardening.
Friends called 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Sparta First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Groveland.
