LIFE STORY OF OLIVE BLACKLEDGE--Olive Floy Blackledge of Monroe passed away at the Pella Community Hospital on Dec. 1, 1968, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 26 days. She was the daughter of James and Bessie Tool Oldham of July 5, 1886, near Reasnor in Jasper County. On August 27, 1905, she was united in marriage to Melvin Eugene Blackledge at Reasnor. With the exception of nine years when she lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Blackledge spent her entire lifetime in the Jasper County area. She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.
Survivors are three sons, Gerald Blackledge of Compton, Ohio, Elmo Blackledge, and Duane Blackledge, both of Monroe, Iowa; a daughter, Oreta, Mrs. Gerrit Van Zee of Pella, Iowa, seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two sisters, Grace Oldham of Des Moines, and Arie, Mrs. Roy Gray of Hampton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband Feb. 19, 1962; a son, Wayne; two brothers; a sister; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in United Methodist Church in Monroe. Rev. James V. Poulsen, minister of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery at Monroe...
