Arthur E. Briggs, 81, of Westport died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at home. He was husband of the late Edith A. (Armanetti) Briggs.

Born in New Bedford, he was son of the late Charles and Edith M.L. (Matthews) Briggs. He was the co-owner of Alro Oxygen & Supply in Fall River for many years. Mr. Briggs was very active with Boy Scout Troop #63 of Westport and was a member of the Westport Point United Methodist Church. He was a call firefighter for the Westport Fire Dept., former treasurer of the Greater Fall River E.M.S. Coordinating Committee, former rescue chief of the New Bedford Civil Defense and was a member of G.N. Alden Ambulance Corps of New Bedford.

Survivors include a son: Paul C. Briggs of Hollywood, FL; a sister: Mildred Connick of Chatham, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Jonathan A. Briggs.

Memorial Service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Westport Point United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boy Scout Troop #63, P.O. Box 2, Westport Point, MA 02791.
