Larry Denton, 73, of Creston, died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.


Larry Dale Denton, was born April 9, 1941 in Creston, Iowa to Wilda Marie (Henry) Denton and B. Dale Denton. He attended Dodge #6 Country School and graduated from Lorimor High School in 1959. After graduation he worked as a farm hand. In September 1962, he started at the Afton Coop. On January 27, 1963, Larry was united in marriage to Rosalie Ann Wilmeth at the Dodge Center Methodist Church. They moved to Indianola in January 1965 where he worked for the Walnut Grove Company. In May of 1966, they moved to Creston where Larry began working for the Farmers-Crestland Cooperative until 2001. Larry worked in agronomy and eventually managed their agronomy department. In 2001 he went to work for Crop-mate until retiring in 2006. Larry was an avid toy tractor and truck collector. He and Rosalie had taken 13 cruises together since 1985. In recent years, they traveled with the Silver Circle Group. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston where he served on various committees. Larry also served on the Union County Fair Board for 6 years.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Denton of Creston; two daughters, Cindy Curtis of Ankeny and Kim (husband Steve) Martin of Waukee; one son, Chuck (wife Tammy) Denton of West Des Moines; his brother, Bill Denton of Afton; brother-in-law Stephen (wife Roxy) Wilmeth of Merriam, KS; five grandchildren Kayla Strain, Gary and Leslie Denton and Haley and Jacob Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Joyce Denton.
