Whelan, Kenneth Thomas ,age 29, a former Medfield resident, died suddenly on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at his home in Ithaca, NY. He was the loving husband of Jenny Lewis.
Born in Natick on May 20, 1982, he was the beloved son of Kathleen A. (Sullivan) Whelan and Kenneth R. Whelan, both of Medfield. He was a 2000 graduate of Medfield High School where he had enjoyed competing in Track and Field. He continued his education at Arizona State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Accounting.
Ken was awarded his CPA in Massachusetts and was employed for a time in the Boston area. He moved to San Francisco in 2006 and reunited with Jenny, whom he had met in Arizona, and worked in finance while taking courses at Berkeley. Ken and Jenny were married in 2008, and settled in Ithaca where he earned his Master’s Degree in Economics from Cornell University. He was most recently a candidate for a Doctorate in Policy Analysis and Management while working as a research assistant at Cornell. An outdoorsman, Ken enjoyed rock climbing and hiking. He was happiest when in the company of his wife and boys.
In addition to Jenny and his parents, he is survived by his sons, Liam and Miles; two sisters, Sara A. Whelan of Charleston, SC, and Briana K. Whelan of Arlington, VA; a brother, Kevin M. Whelan of Charlottesville, VA; his maternal grandmother, Ann M. Sullivan of Framingham; his parents-in-law, Stephen and Carol Lewis of Scottsdale, AZ; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the United Church of Christ, 496 Main Street, Medfield, on Saturday, Nov. 12th at 1:00p.m. All are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
