Macil Don King was born on August 8, 1919 in the Indiana Township, Marion County, Iowa, the son of Owen King and Alice (Parker) King.

Don began farming at age 15 and continued following graduation from the Attica High School. He was united in marriage to Dana Onieda Bebout on August 11, 1940 in Knoxville. The two farmed near Attica, raising hogs and Herford Cattle. Don also owned and operated "King's Repair & Implement" and did custom farming throughout Marion County.

In 1970, the family moved to Knoxville and Don worked at the Marion County Accessor office. He then worked at Community National Bank before transferring to the Iowa State Savings Bank where he was the drive-up manager for 10 years. Don operated "King's Repair" out of his home for over 33 years where he enjoyed repairing clocks, guns and antique furniture. He took great pride in having his son share in the farming and family businesses with him and they also enjoyed doing a little fishing and hunting together. Don liked bowling, playing cards with neighbors and friends and boating with his daughter and son-in-law.

He served with the Methodist Men of Attica, the Mahaska Marion County Farm Bureau where he was president for 3 years. Don also was a member of the Masonic Temple of Attica and Knoxville and the Eastern Star for over 56 years where he held many offices. He was a member of Kiwanis and had been President for 2 terms and the Lieutenant Governor for District 1.
