He was born in New Haven May 21, 1942, to the late Moise F. and Juliette I. (Charbonneau) LaPlante. He entered the U.S. Navy, serving for 20 years before his honorable discharge retiring as a chief petty officer. After his service to his country, Frank worked as a S.T.O. and technical writer for the EB Division of General Dynamics until his retirement.
Frank married his grade school sweetheart, Maureen Reynolds, on Jan. 19, 1963, at Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford.
He was a proud Mason and Past Master of Bayview Lodge No. 120 – Niantic and a dual member of Somerset-St. James Lodge No. 34 in Preston. He was very proud to be in the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Fidelity Chapter No. 54 – Niantic and dual member of Lady Washington Chapter No. 45 – Middletown. He was appointed general grand chapter committee member – youth and past grand patron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Connecticut, and was known to many as "Father Frank."
He served several years as president of the Kitemaug Orchard Water Association, and was a member of the Sprague Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed writing letters to the editor of The Day newspaper, woodworking and spending time with family.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Maureen; his son, Francis C. LaPlante Jr. and his wife, Marji, of Waterbury; his daughter, Josephine J. Wood Jr. and her husband, Jay, of Lemoore, Calif.; grandchildren Jay "Bear" Wood III, Andrea Wood, Amber and Timothy Saunders, Danielle Roman, Santina Gianni-LaPlante, Giovanni LaPlante and Victor; a great-grandchild, Chloe Saunders; and many devoted lodge brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk., Uncasville, with memorial ceremonies from the Eastern Star at 6:30 p.m. and Masons at 7:30 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held noon Tuesday at St. John's Cemetery in Wallingford.
