Carolyn Lou (Burdge) Street, age 72 of Baxter Springs, passed from this life on July 18, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO.

Carolyn was born on May 11, 1942 to the union of Joseph Warner and Cleo Flossie (Hart) Burdge.

Her father passed away when she was 9, and her very special step-father named Rev. Henry Horn, or "Pop", helped Cleo to raise her.

She attended Chetopa and Picher Schools in her youth, and graduated from Riverton High School in 1980.

She worked as a Para-Teacher at Columbus Life and Career Skills Center (LCS) until her retirement in 2007.

She was active in the Mercy Stitcher's Organization where she crocheted shawls for long-term care patients, the Mercy Prestige Club, and a lifetime involvement in area Christian Ministries. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, cooking, sewing, reading, gardening, and traveling.

She was a member for 50 years at Neutral United Methodist Church in Neutral, KS serving as teacher, song leader, and Sunday School Superintendent.

She married the love of her life, James C. Street, in Cardin, OK on September 4, 1959. He survives.

Additional survivors include one son, Phillip C. Street (wife, Patti) of Riverton, KS; one daughter, Cynthia J. Garner (husband, Bill) of Baxter Springs; one brother, Johnny Burdge (wife, Inez) of Farmersville, CA; three sisters, Willadean Rainier (husband, Bill) of Grove, OK, Jackie Miller of Miami, OK, and Louise Morgan (husband, Robert) of Commerce, OK; six grandchildren, Lauren Burkhart (husband, Jason), Lisa Burkhart (husband, Chris), Bethany Street, Garrett Street, Sarah Maxton (husband, William), and Zach Garner (wife, Amanda); ten great-grandchildren, Cora Burkhart, Anna Burkhart, Maya Burkhart, Benjamin Burkhart, Eli Burkhart, Alex Burkhart, Audrey Burkhart, Conner Flinn, James Maxton, and Eva Maxton; and one sister-in-law, Sharon Johnson (husband, Ronnie) of Baxter Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six siblings, Alene, Pauline, Claudine, Earline, Joseph, and Nadine; and one sister-in-law, Esther Dunn.

A Funeral Service and celebration of her Christian Life has been planned for Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Derfelts Baxter Chapel.

Pastor Neal Anderson will officiate, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Visitation hours will be Monday, July 21, 2014 from 6-8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Neutral United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
