Mrs. Johnson was born on November 2, 1935 in Bastrop to the late James Willard Barnett and the late Mabrey Beatrice Smith Barnett. She grew up in Bastrop and went on to attend Louisiana State University where she was a Pi Beta Phi and an LSU Beauty. After graduating from LSU, she married the late William Lewis Johnson, Sr. in September 1958. They established their family home in Wilmot, Arkansas where they raised three children together.

Mrs. Johnson was an active community member throughout her life. Mrs. Johnson is fondly remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her lifelong interests chiefly involved travel and the arts, especially music, and she took great pleasure in sharing these interests with her children and grandchildren. A thoughtful writer, she often sent handwritten notes and letters and was known for her grace, generosity, quick sense of humor and love for her family.
