Valentino B. Palillo, 84, a former employee of Oldbury Chemical Co. and Niagara County Community College, died Sunday (May 21, 2000) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness.
Palillo was born in Savuto, Calabria, Italy, and arrived in Niagara Falls in 1927. He completed his education here.
From July 13, 1942, to May 19, 1946, Palillo was in the U.S. Army. He played saxophone in the U.S. Army Air Forces Band.
Palillo was in charge of the storeroom at Oldbury Chemical for 13 years. He then took a similar job at Niagara County Community College, from which he retired in 1974.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a member of the John A. Duke Senior Citizens Center. He played softball and golf, bowled, hunted and was a New York Yankees fan.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Esther LaMarca; a son, Fred C.; a daughter, Debra West of Honolulu; and two sisters, Olean Gullo and Celia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Church, 14th Street and Pine Avenue.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
