On Wednesday, July 24, the Lexington 14 year-old Dixie Boys All Stars honored him by wearing his initials, "CW," on their caps in his memory at the state tournament in Mt. Pleasant.

Surviving are wife, Carlette West of West Columbia; father of Dalzell; son, Cory West of Pelion; stepdaughter, Holly Skenes of West Columbia; stepson, Top Skenes of West Columbia; sisters, Mona West Johnson and Rebecca Thomason, both of Sumter; brother, Benny Richard West of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Garrett Skenes.
