Oneida, IL - Barbara Gail Gillham, 72, of 1162 Fox Town Place in Oneida died at 2:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.

Born Aug. 13, 1932, in Peckham, Okla., to Russell and Gertrude Harfst Bessey, she married Lyle E. Gillham on Sept. 5, 1953, in Galesburg. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, George of Miramar, Fla., Arthur (and Marianne) of LaCrosse, Wis., and Phillip of Oneida; three grandchildren; and her mother of Knoxville.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

She worked as a mental health technician for the state of Illinois at Galesburg Research Hospital and later at Zeller Mental Health Center in Peoria. She worked as a Galesburg city assessor, drove a school and city bus; sold Sara Coventry jewelry and operated the city campground for a couple of summers. She then operated an onion ring concession wagon. She also worked as a seamstress on a cruise ship for a short time.

She was active in the PTA and band at Lombard Elementary School. She also was a den mother.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, where she served as co-chairman of local church activities. She also taught second and third grade Sunday school for eight years.

Graveside services will be in Easton Cemetery.
