Darrell Bruce Long, 71 of Evansville passed away at 11:04 pm, Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his residence.
Darrell was born September 26, 1942 in Evansville the son of the late Andrew "Lex" and Ursella (Snyder) Long. He entered the United States Army in January 1961 and retired May 1982 as a Team Chief, Military Police Investigations, Ft. Benning, GA. Darrell was a Vietnam veteran and received many awards and decorations, to include the Air Medal with 3 Oak leaf clusters and Air Crewman's badge. He was proud of his military service. After retirement Darrell began driving a semi-tractor trailer, was a line haul driver and worked for the State of Indiana Employment Division as a Veterans Service Representative. Darrell was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #73, Retired Police and Firefighters Association, Reed Lodge #316, Scottish Rite, No-Ruz Grotto, Sword of Bunker Hill, Order of the Amaranth, American Legion, Post #265, Disabled American Veterans, Retired Enlisted Association and National Association of Uniformed Services. He was of the Southern Baptist faith. Darrell never met a stranger.
He is survived by daughter, Karen Cooper of Evansville; sons, Andrew J. Long, Sr. of Huntingburg, IN and Kurn Long of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Kaylyn and Andrew Long, Jr.; aunts, Wanda Price and Roberta Burns; uncle, Bert Morgan, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Jack Long in 1939.
Funeral Services will be held from 9 am to 10 am, Thursday, July 17, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Reverend Robert Nall officiating. Burial will be private at the Veterans Section at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 pm until 7 pm, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel where Reed Lodge, #316 will conduct a Masonic service at 6:30 pm.
