Roy was number 2 in a family of 10 children by Roland Palmer and Eva Georgia (Hoyle) Haynes.
Roy's parents were share croppers until he was 20 years old so he new what it was like to work on a farm.
Roy served over 2 years ln the army during world war II in a tank division in Europe. After the war he was employed with the N.C. Dept. of Transportation as a motor grader operator and retired with 41 years of service.
Roy was member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, member of the adult Men's Sunday School Class and a member of the Church Choir.
