Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center at Washburn University for Rebecca Rinearson Wright, 74, Topeka, a painter and a teacher in Topeka for many years, who died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at a Topeka hospice house.

She was born April 30, 1926, in Portland, Ore., to Leonard E. and Clara Johnston Rinearson. She graduated from the Portland Art Museum School in 1948. She moved to Topeka in 1967 and began teaching children's art classes at the Mulvane Art Museum in 1958. (sic) She established the Painting for Fun adult class in 1959 and remained at Mulvane until she retired in 1986.


She later was an artist in residence for Topeka Public Schools in 1967 and taught art classes at the United Methodist Home.

Her paintings won numerous awards and have been exhibited at the Mulvane Art Museum, Topeka Public Library and the YWCA building, all in Topeka, and the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Neb. She was a frequent exhibitor at the Mulvane Art Fair.

She was a member of the Nautilus Club.


In 1952 she married Jack Wright, now a professor emeritus of the Washburn Art Department. He survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Sarah Hughes, Half Moon Bay, Calif.; Elizabeth Wright Millard, St. Louis, and Abigail Buckland and Caitlin Almond, both in Topeka and eight grandchildren.


Mrs. Wright was cremated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University, Midland Hospice House or the Young Women's Christian Association. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements,
