York Daily Record (PA) - Tuesday, January 17, 2012

YORK John "Pap" Ervin Brenner, Sr., 76, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 5:23 p.m. at his home, with his wife and family by his side. He was the husband of Charlene M. (Butcher) Brenner, with whom he celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary since February 13, 1960. Mr. Brenner was born on June 16, 1935, in York, the son of the late William K. and Dorothy (Sponseller) Brenner. Mr. Brenner was a tree surgeon at Bartlett Trees of Dover for 30 years; he was also employed by Agway and Global Stone. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Brenner was also a volunteer with the EYC midget football organization as a coach as well as involved with the Glen Rock Boy and Cub Scouts. He was a lifelong fan of Penn State football. Mr. Brenner enjoyed the outdoors, especially the many days of fishing throughout the years. In addition to his wife, Mr. Brenner is survived by four children, Deborah L. Why and husband Craig, John E. Brenner, Jr., Karen S. Naugle and husband Kevin, and Kenneth M. Brenner and companion, Jewel Jordan, all of York; 10 grandchildren, Gregory, Todd, Melissa, Michael, John E. III (Jake), Christopher, Dustin, Zachary, and Jennifer, all of York, and Brandon of South Carolina; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Mr. Brenner is also survived by three brothers, Robert Brenner, William K. Brenner, Jr. and wife Maxine, and James Brenner and wife Jeanette, all of York; two sisters, Mary Brunner and Donna M. Williams, both of York; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brothers, George "Blackie" Brenner, Gerald "Jet" E. Brenner and a sister, Sandra Hampton. In addition to his family, Mr. Brenner had expressed acknowledgement of a special "Thank You" for help and assistance to his friend and personal nurse, Michele D. Russ. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Asera Care Hospice, especially Amy Skiles, for their help and support in the care and comfort of Mr. Brenner in his time of need for their services. A celebration of life service will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., 822 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
