She was born Jan. 20, 1911 in Detroit, the daughter of Telesphore and Mina(Willey) Bourbonnais. She married Don Swarthout at St. Mary's Church in Pinckney on Feb. 3, 1934, and he proceeded her in death in 1970.
Mrs. Swarthout attended Pinckney schools, University of Michigan, Adrian, and Michigan State Normal and received a master's degree. She was a life time member of the community, a teacher, counselor at Pinckney Schools, former owner of Swarthout Funeral Home and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Pinckney. She was the author of two books, "So Melts the Ice" and "Gramms Remembers".
Survivors included one daughter, Donnalee Templeton of Pinckney; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Skip.
