HOUSTON, TX - E.G. "Pete" Mangum", 69, of Houston, TX, passed away on March 17, 2000.
He was born in Forest, LA. Throughout high school he played basketball, baseball and football that led to a football scholarship to the University of Mississippi where he graduated. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and went on to play professional football with the New York Giants, Winnipeg, Blue Bomber and Denver Broncos. While playing linebacker with the Giants, they won the 1956 World Championship. His love for the Sport continued through his coaching of high school and later college football including 3 years at Texas Southern University. He was a great inspiration to many of his players because of his sincere interest in their personal growth. He was a member of Memorial Drive United Church.
He is survived by his mother, Celeste McBride and his loving wife of 41 years, Virginia. Also survived by his children, Lisa Huddleston, Glynde Mangum and Alyson Hidalgo. His beloved grandchildren: Kiley and Hope Huddleston, along with Dylan Hidalgo, always brought a smile to his face.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 20, 2000 in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Hill officiating. Interment was in the Memorial Oakes Cemetery.
