Shirley was born on July 23, 1934 in Wheatland, Wyoming the daughter of Franzel and Dorothy (Orr) Memmer.
Shirley graduated from Wheatland High School in 1952 and attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri. She married Bruce von Forell on October 11, 1953 where they ranched and raised registered Hereford cattle for forty years near Wheatland. Shirley played an active role in the ranch being the head bookkeeper, social director, entertaining political and agricultural leaders, newcomers, customers, and friends.
She was very active in PEO, Laramie River Club, Laramie Peak Cowbelles, Wyoming Stockgrowers, and the All Saints Episcopal Church.
She loved to play the piano and gave lessons for years. She played the organ for the All Saints Episcopal Church for decades and continued to play piano at the nursing home until she passed away. She loved to organize all family activities and most of all she loved to be with her grandchildren. She spent life being a caregiver to her family.
She is survived by her children, Becky Sintek (Brad) of Sandy, Oregon, Cindy Schilreff (David) of Torrington, Wyoming, and Hardy von Forell of Wheatland; grandchildren, Kasi Sintek, Britney Hull (Justin), Ben von Forell, Amanda von Forell, Kristine Maltby (Levi); great grandchildren, Payton, Mark, and Rachael; and brother-in-law, Bill Engstrom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on January 22, 1994; her parents; daughter-in-law, Mary von Forell on August 3, 2009; sister, Lavona Engstrom; and brother, Don Memmer.
