Margaret was born in Altamenagh, County Donegal, Ireland to William Hurst and Ellen McCartney Hurst. She had a sister, Mary born May 8, 1869

Margaret and Daniel were married in Vancouver December 11, 1895 at Daniel's cousin Thomas Morton's house. They had four sons: Stanley, Ernest, Cecil and William James Daniel.

Margaret died as a result of a car accident where they were hit broadside with Margaret being thrown from the car and later dying at Vancouver General Hospital.
