Alexandria Argus, dated April 22, 1898:
One of Mr. Cobern's little daughters, died with diphtheria last Sunday morning, and was buried in the afternoon in the Pleasant Plain cemetery. We understand this makes five children they have lost with diphtheria. They have the sympathy of the entire community.

It is sad to say, since last week Mr. Cobern's have buried two more children with diphtheria. This is six children they have lost with this dreaded disease.

Coburn's have lost another child by diphtheria, making four within a few weeks.

A memorial service for Mr. Cobern's children was held at the Pleasant Plain Church last Saturday morning at 11 A.M. The service was conducted by Rev. S. T. Conner.

The cemetery records says 7 children of Roy Cobern. I don't know if this includes George and James who have separate memorials, as they are listed on the registry at the cemetery. The registry says 4 Cobern children.
