Born in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late William L Ratcliffe.
She is survived by her husband, Harold M. Townsend; a son, Thomas Mathew "Tommy" Townsend and wife, Robyn; a grandson, Noah Thomas Townsend; her mother, Flora Morris Ratcliffe; a sister, Sue Dofflemoyer and husband, Luther; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and special thanks to Betty Clement, Marie Lawrence and Beverly Cook.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 620 Lafayette Ave., Colonial Heights, VA 23834, with the Rev. Fred Adkins officiating. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014, at Graham Cemetery, 14191 Constitution Highway, Orange, VA 22960. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
