Isaac Fletcher Redfield, LL.S. was the oldest of the twelve children of Dr. Peleg and Hannah Parker Redfield. As a jurist he ranked among the foremost in America. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1825 and was admitted to the Vermont Bar in 1827. He served on Vermont's Supreme Court from 1835 to 1860 and was the Chief Justice for the last eight years on the bench.
He married first, on September 28, 1836, Mary Ward Smith of Stanstead, Canada. She died in 1839. He married second, on May 4, 1842, Catherine Blanchard Clark of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Catherine was the mother of all their children.
