Clyde Nelson Gregory, our beloved Funny Face, Pop, Grandad, and Great Grandad took his place with our heavenly Father the morning of Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

Clyde was born one of nine children to James Robert Gregory and Mildred Estella Gregory in Torrington, Wyo. He grew up in Wyoming and the Bitterroot Valley of Hamilton, Mont.

Clyde enlisted in the United States Army on Oct. 3, 1945. He was sent to boot camp at Camp Plauche, La. He was also stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, Camp Beal, Calif., Fort Lawton near Seattle, and Fort Lewis near Tacoma. He served after World War II as a small-arms repairman, military police officer, and clerk.

Clyde married his hometown sweetheart, Ava Lillian Harris, while on military leave on March 5, 1946, in Missoula, Mont.

Clyde finished his military service on Jan. 8, 1947.

Clyde and Ava moved to Colfax for a while and then moved in 1948 to Walla Walla, where they raised their family, son, Danny Steve, daughter, Terry Ellen, and foster son, Willis Campbell.

Clyde and Ava enjoyed a large treasury of friends whom they enjoyed spending time with, playing cards, bowling, dancing, and making memories.

Clyde worked for Walla Walla Sawmills for 17 years.

In 1977, Clyde and Ava moved to Lewiston, where he worked for Potlatch Corp. for 18 years, on both the lumber side and pulp and paper side. He retired from Potlatch in 1993.

Those who loved him would say Clyde was a big, softhearted, loving, giving, and caring man. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to everyone.

Clyde was a very hard and faithful worker, ever responsible for providing for his family. Clyde was all about family, simpler times and ways of life, and the good Lord above.

He was called the Montana Yodeler and his yodel was music from heaven to our ears for as long as memory serves us.

Clyde always appreciated the simple things in life and the beauty of nature. He loved the mountains, creeks, and streams. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, checkers, and cribbage.

After retirement, fly tying was a main source of pleasure to fill his days, along with a good checker game or a good book.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Martha, Freida, Imogene, and Oletha and brothers Stanley, baby boy Robert and James (Man).

He is survived by his wife, Ava; son Dan and wife Marilyn Gregory of Hite, Utah; daughter Terry Gregory of Shelton, Wash.; foster son Willis and wife Terry Campbell of Shelton; four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister Louise Roy of Victor, Mont.

We will miss his big heart, that smile that would light up any room, and that twinkle in his eyes! We love you, Funny Face, Pop, Grandad, Greats Grandad and we can't wait to see you again. Amen.
