Natalie Helene Griffin
Feb. 14, 1928 ~ June 19, 2014
Resident of Brentwood

Natalie Helene Griffin, a long time resident of Brentwood, California, passed away peacefully on June 19th, 2914. She is survived by her son Dave and daughter-in-law Nancy, of Gold River, CA, as well as granddaughters, Kathryn, of Seattle, WA and Jennifer, of Champaign, IL.

Natalie was born on Valentine's Day, 1928, in Framingham, MA, to Nathan Grout and Helen Johnson Grout. Natalie spent her early years in Framingham as well as summers at the family cottage in Waldoboro, ME. In 1942, Natalie's family moved to Walnut Creek, CA, where Natalie would graduate from Acalanes High School, attend college, marry, raise a family, and pursue her career. Natalie, and her late husband of 59 years, William (Bill) Griffin, moved to Brentwood in 1979.

A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Natalie was an employee of Contra Costa County for 30 years becoming, at the time of her retirement, one of the first female building inspectors in the Public Works Department.

After her retirement, Natalie and Bill enjoyed the quiet life in Brentwood but also found time to travel throughout the United States including Hawaii and Alaska, Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe. Natalie was a founding member of the Delta Community Presbyterian Church in Discovery Bay serving as a Deacon for many years. Natalie's faith, and community in Christ, gave her great strength and perseverance. Outgoing and friendly, Natalie was a regular participant in the Delta Women's luncheon group as well as active in the Walnut Creek Historical Society. With an abiding interest in genealogy and early American history, Natalie was a proud member of many related organizations including: the Mount Diablo Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, the San Francisco Bay Chapter of Daughters of the American Colonists, the California Chapter of Daughters of the Founders and Patriots of America, and the Anne Bradstreet Chapter of Colonial Dames XVII Century.

Natalie was laid to rest, next to her husband Bill, in a private ceremony at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA. Memorial gifts may be made to the Humane Society of the United States (www.humanesociety.org) or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (www.aspca.org). A celebration of Natalie's life will be held on Saturday, July 19th, at 1:00 p.m. at Delta Community Presbyterian Church, 1900 Willow Lake Road, Discovery Bay, CA 94514.
