South Lead Cemetery records state that Eleanor Richter Bergden died on June 5, 1946 in the LaSalle Hotel fire in Chicago; age 27; married; relative - Adam Lakota, brother; buried in South Lead Cemetery on June 12, 1946; undertaker - Rounsevell.

Lead Daily Call newspaper, June 7, 1946 - FORMER LOCAL GIRL VICTIM LaSALLE FIRE.
Chief of Police Bert Hudelson received word from the chief of detectives in Chicago, Walter G. Storms, today, notifying him that Eleanor Richter, a former resident of Lead, was a victim of the La Salle hotel fire. He further advised that the body is at the county morgue awaiting disposition.
The victim is the former Eleanor Lakota, sister of Adam Lakota of Lead, and attended school in Lead. She is about 36 years of age. Her mother, Mrs. John Lilly, lives in Custer. She is widely recalled in Lead.

Lead Daily Call, June 10, 1946 - BODY OF ELEANOR RICHTER ENROUTE HERE FOR BURIAL.
The body of the late Mrs. Eleanor Richter, victim of the LaSalle hotel fire in Chicago, is enroute to Lead for funeral services and burial, and is expected to arrive here Tuesday.
Rosary services will be held at the Rounsevell funeral home Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock.
A solemn mass of requiem will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic church Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at which the Rev. J.P. Cowley, S.T.L., will be celebrant. Rt. Rev. Msgr. M.S. Roach, L.L.D., will preach the sermon. Miss Pearl Becich will be soloist and Mrs. Joseph Dunn will be organist.
Interment will be in the family lot in the municipal cemetery in South Lead.

Owing to the non-arrival of Mrs. Eleanor Richter, victim of LaSalle hotel fire in Chicago last week, funeral services have been necessarily postponed. They will be held Friday morning at 9:30 from St. Patrick's Catholic church.
The Rosary service will be held Thursday evening at the Rounsevell funeral home.
The deceased's brother, Adam Lakota, is a resident of Lead, and her mother, Mrs. John Lilly, lives in Custer."

In a requiem high mass at St. Patrick's church this morning the funeral for Mrs. Eleanor Richter, a victim of the La Salle hotel fire, was held. Rev. J.P. Cowley was celebrant. The sermon was given by Rev. Leo S. Feuerbach of Hill City, formerly at the Lead parish 18 years ago.
George Rose sang 'Panis Angelicus' and 'Just for Today.' He was accompanied by Mrs. Joseph Dunn on the organ.
Interment was in South Lead cemetery. The pallbearers were Chester Schemle, Harry Schemle, Belle Fourche; Leo Helmer, Los Angeles, Calif.; Newell Burleson, Custer; and Charles Kinney, John Harrison, Lead.
