Roy J. Abrams, 82, a life long Franklin County resident, passed away at his home on July 6, 2014.

He was born March 6, 1932 in Jackson Co., KY to Robert & Sara (Davidson) Abrams. Roy served in the US Army from 1950-1954. He married Viola Whipple on April 23, 1949 and she preceded him in death on September 24, 2005. He married Joan (Pickens) Detwiler on August 20, 2010 and she survives.

Roy spent many winters in Minneola & Opa Locka, Florida. Roy worked several years at International Furniture in Rushville and he also farmed & had dairy cattle for many years. He attended the Andersonville Christian Church where he was a past trustee and was a member and baptized at the Chapel Baptist Church in Franklin County. Roy was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to farm & loved his family!

He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Franklin County, a step son, Dan & wife Julie Detwiler of Atlanta, GA, step daughters, JoEllen & husband Dan VanAnda of Chicago, IL and Janet & husband Kelly George of Indianapolis, a sister, Frances Ralstin of Rushville, 7 step grandchildren, nephews, Larry & wife Cheri Stewart and Gary & wife Becky Stewart, great nephews, Gary Stewart & Mitch Davis, great nieces, Jessica Abrams & Crystal Wilson & great-great nephews, Maleki & Coltin.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, a sister, Stella Stewart & a step granddaughter.

Services will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 11, 2014 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Dr. Richard Ralstin presiding. Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary from 4-8 PM Thursday evening, July 10.

Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery.

The Rush County Veteran's Honor Guard will provide military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Andersonville Christian Church.
