Early Life: Nina was born on July 5, 1927, in Provo, Utah, to Heber Lovell and Sylvia Ann Hansen Nielsen. She spent her childhood working and playing on a small family farm on the Danish Bench, which is now Cedar Hills. She graduated from American Fork High.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: On August 15, 1949, Nina was married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to her sweetheart, Albert Junior Schumann. Soon after their marriage, they moved to South Pasadena, California, to be closer to her husband's family. Nina was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many different capacities including Primary President, Chorister, Relief Society teacher, and Stake Young Women Leader. She continued her education by taking art courses at Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College. She stated that she fell in love with art at an early age. She treasured being an artist and sold many paintings. She is known for her remarkable depictions of Mount Timpanogos. She shared her gift with others by teaching at her home and local craft stores. For many years, she dedicated herself to the Pageant of the Arts and enjoyed applying makeup for performers. Nina Elaine Nielsen Schumann passed away in her home in Lehi, Utah, on Sunday, February 24, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was 85.
Survived By: Her husband, Albert; her brother, Glen Nielsen (Connie); and her children: Cathleen S. Durrant, Cheralee Rasmussen (Larry), Lanet Reed (Lynn), Chris Schumann (DeAnn), Mark Schumann (Karen); 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: Her parents; brother, Grant Nielsen; her sister, Elna May; and her granddaughter, Margaret (Maggie) Schumann.
