Margaret Ann (Rusk) Rockwell Bakkestuen died unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, July 10, 2008.

She was born January 27, 1953, to Freeman and Ruth (Getter) Rusk. She grew up in Viroqua, where she was a member of the Viroqua Church of Christ. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1971. On May 20, 1972, she married Larry Rockwell. They were later divorced. Margaret took pride in her family, providing childcare in her home, working as a secretary at the Church of Christ and was currently working at the front desk at Old Towne Motel. Margaret married Arvid Bakkestuen on October 4, 2007. Arvid took wonderful care of her and loved her immensely. He always called her "my baby." Every morning he woke her up saying, "Good morning, my baby. I love you." Not a day went by without that morning greeting.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Arvid and his family; her loving children, Mark (Shelly) Rockwell of Green Bay, Julie (Jake) Hallam of Westby; and her grandchildren, Naja Ruth, Draven Scott and Elias Levi, who adored Gramma as much as she adored them. Margaret had a special connection with all of them; especially Draven, who is autistic. He could talk to her in a way he could talk to nobody else. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and special friends, including Jenny Wuolle, who lived just around the corner.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 14, 2008, at Thorson-Reetz Funeral Home in Viroqua with burial at the Liberty Pole Cemetery, rural Viroqua. Margaret's daughter, Julie, officiated and sang at the service. Casket bearers were Jake Hallam, Monte Tewalt, Bernie Appenzeller, Geary Aspenson, Mervin Rockwell, Buck Volden, Randy and Mike Bakkestuen. A visitation was held Sunday evening and Monday prior to the service.

Our hearts hurt in this time of grief. We will miss her smile, her hugs, her laugh, her snuggles and her beautiful voice that could lift your spirit simply by hearing her say, "hello." She will be greatly missed and we take comfort in knowing that her spirit is with us and will forever live in our hearts. We will see you soon.

"Our family is a circle of love and strength. With every birth and every union, the circle grows. Every joy shared adds more love. Every obstacle faced together makes the circle stronger."
