Mr. George F. Brasington, Jr., 90, of Waycross died late Saturday evening at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness. He was born in Waycross to the late George F. Brasington, Sr., and Myrtle Yerby Brasington. Mr. Brasington served during World War II in the United States Army. Upon leaving the Army, he received his Doctorate of Political Science and History and went on to teach as a professor at Emory University before his retirement after forty years of service.

As a child he attended First United Methodist Church in Waycross. He continued his Methodist Faith attending church in Atlanta, while teaching at Emory. He loved to travel extensively throughout Europe. He was a loving son who cared for his mother up until her death. Mr. Brasington was an avid reader and loved receiving his daily subscriptions from five different newspapers. Most of all he loved the students he taught and took great satisfaction in their successes beyond the classroom.

Mr. Brasington is survived by his cousin Robert Morton Yerby, Jr. of Waycross; his second cousins, Robert N. Wynn of Fitzgerald, Henry R. Wynn of St. Simons Island, Mary Kathryn Taylor and her husband Kennon of Waycross; third cousins, Kristina Nicole Johnson and her husband Ryan of Savannah, Kennon Adam Taylor of Avalon Park, Florida, Jason Wynn of Waycross, Ginger Wynn of Alabama and numerous other relatives.

A service will be held at the graveside in Oakland Cemetery at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
