On Jan. 9, 2006, Cmdr. Christopher Bradley Adair was laid to rest with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Chris enjoyed a distinguished career as both an enlisted man from 1983-87 and as an officer from 1987 until the time of his death in 2005. In addition to his devotion to the Coast Guard, Chris was a loving and caring husband and father. He was a beloved son who created pride and awe in his family. In 1987, he was appointed to the Coast Guard Officer Candidate School in Yorktown, Va., earning his commission the same year. This was an achievement he sought from age 10, when he declared following a tour of the USCGC Eagle, "I will be an officer in the Coast Guard when I grow up." Chris was born in Elwood, Ind., and grew up in Dunwoody. He graduated from Riverside Military Academy in 1978 and attended North Georgia College and State University, receiving a BS degree in criminal justice in 1982. He served on a number of United States Coast Guard Cutters, including: The ACUSHNET in Gulfport, Miss., as a seaman, the MIDGETT in San Francisco as sonar tech, the CAMPBELL in New Bedford, Mass., as a deck watch officer, navigation officer and combat information center officer, the SHERMAN, Alameda, Calif., as combat systems department head, then as operations officer, the MONHEGAN, "Dirty Jobs Done Dirt Cheap," Key West, Fla., as commanding officer, the MORGANTHAU, Alameda, Calif., as executive officer. In addition, Cmdr. Adair served tours of duty at the ASW/ST "A" School, the Coast Guard Institute as chief of administrative services, Coast Guard Pacific Operations as Cutter Management, (Pof), Coast Guard headquarters staff, Washington, D.C., and was promoted to COMDT (GOPL), U.S. Southern Command Miami, Fla., as Coast Guard logistics officer.

Christopher Bradley Adair was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Anne, Dunwoody, and is survived by his wife, Vikki; son, Courtland, Westin, Fla.; father, David; stepmother, Mary Jo, Gainesville; and brother, Timothy David, Dunwoody.

Friends, shipmates and family knew him to be a true American patriot, devoted to his faith, family, service and country. Words cannot say how much we miss him. Fair Winds and Following Seas My Son.
