William "Butch" Blankenship, 1850-1900, died at age 50. He married Polly Ann Stanfill on February 12, 1870, in Scott County, TN. They had 9 children, C. Canada, Melton, James Fowler, Rachel, Malinda, William R. Jr., Chester, Frank, and Stella Mae. He owned about 100 acres of land in the Capuchin area at one time and was involved in the family's extensive distillery business. The Blankenship family had been chosen by the government to be the legal operators of the moonshining business in that part of Tennessee. The Family said that Butch and Polly literally drank themselves into a premature death, leaving behind their young children to be raised by their eldest son.
