Accident at Hamilton Co. Plant Fatal
Martin Kozlowski Killed in Press Room Accident
TWO RIVERS—Martin V. Kozlowski, 44, of 1023-23rd St., a gang leader in the steel plant press room of Hamilton Mfg. Co. and father of eight children, was almost instantly killed in an accident in the department at midnight
Thursday.

A widely known former semi-professional baseball and basketball player prior to World War II, Kozloski’s skull was crushed as he was adjusting one of the big presses. A spokesman of Hamilton Manufacturing Co. said Friday morning that the exact cause of the fatality is still being investigated and is somewhat difficult to determine. Kozlowski, it was stated, was standing on the draw press bed repairing the raised mechanism.

It is possible that in so doing his legs touched the operating buttons which would cause the slide to rise, and his head was caught between the press frame and the moving slide, it was explained. A son, Dale, was in the wood plant and Paul, another son, was in the steel plant in another department and they were summoned.

Kozlowski was born at Manistee, Mich., Jan. 6, 1917, son of the late Frank and Antoinette Kotarek Kozlowski. When he was three the family brought him to Two Rivers where he attended St. Luke Parochial School and Vocational School. He served for a short period in World War II in 1945 in the Heavy Armored Artillery.

He was an employe of Hamilton Mfg. Co. for 24 years, all of which was spent in the firm’s steel plant. He was made a gang leader in the press room several years ago. For a number of years he starred on semi-professional baseball and basketball teams at Two Rivers. On the city baseball team as an outfielder, he was also a member and manager of the former Miller basketball team of Two Rivers and the Rockets of Manitowoc.

A member of the Old Timers Baseball Association of Manitowoc County, he was also a member of the Hide-A-Way Gun Club of which he was a former president; Holy Name society of St. Luke Church and Hamilton Good fellowship Club.

Surviving are his wife, the former De Lilles Allie, of Two Rivers whom he married July 30, 1938; his mother; five daughters, Karen, Janice, Judith, Theresa and Mary Jo at home; three sons, Dale of Two Rivers and Paul and Martin Jr., at home; four brothers, Leonard, Donald, John and Frank Jr., of Two Rivers and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 2 p.m. Sunday where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. by Holy Name Society and at 8 p.m. by the parish. The casket will remain closed.
