Thomas "Tom" Edington was born July 21, 1820 in Coshocton Co., OH to his parents Robert and Margaret Alice (Hardisty) Edington. His father, Robert, died April 5, 1844 in Coshocton Co., OH and is buried there although he is listed on the Hardisty family headstone at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Greene Co., IN. His mother, Margaret m. 2nd to Elijah Ashcraft, the widower of her sister Elizabeth, and Margaret is buried at Ashcraft Cemetery, Greene Co., IN and she, too, is listed on the Hardisty family headstone at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Greene Co., IN.

On March 28, 1845, Thomas married Neoma Hardesty in Coshocton Co., OH a daughter of Thomas and Frances "Fanny" (Burris) Hardesty. Neoma was born February 18, 1825 and died April 4, 1846 at age 20. There was one child born to this union, died in infancy. Neoma is buried at Chalfant Cemetery in Coshocton Co., OH.

Thomas married 2nd to Ursula Elizabeth Moore on May 8, 1850 in Coshocton Co. OH. Ursula was born February 3, 1834 in Mooresfield, Harrison Co., OH to her parents John I and Penina Moore, and died September 27, 1907 in Koleen, Greene Co., IN. Ursula had married 2nd to William Webb on February 14, 1884 in Greene Co., IN.
