Efforts to revive him at the home failed and he was removed to Elkhart General Hospital in the Wakarusa Ambulance with crewmen making further attempts to revive him but he was pronounced dead at Elkhart General Hospital at 10:26 pm.
For the past 26 years he and his wife, Erma, have operated Drake's Jewelry Store in Wakarusa and he has been a community leader.
He was a charter member of the Wakarusa Lions Club, and the Wakarusa United Methodist Church. He was active in the William Reed Post, American Legion, in Wakarusa and was a charter member of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Reserve. He was a member of the St Joseph Valley Watchmakers and the Indiana Jewelers Association of Clock and Watch Collectors. He served as an officer and director of most of those organizations.
Born June 8, 1921, in Harrison Township, he and Erma were married Feb 6, 1941.
Mr Drake was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Air Force in that conflict.
Mrs Drake survives together with two daughters, his stepmother, Mrs Edith Drake of Wakarusa; a half brother, Albert Stealy of Jimtown; and a stepsister, Mrs Edward (Dorothy) Maust of Sebring, Fla.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd Drake, Dan and Art Sealy, and two sisters, Mrs Grace Bigler and Mrs Gertrude Blenner.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon in the Wakarusa United Methodist Church by the Rev Douglas Anderson, pastor, assisted by the Rev Russell Krabill, pastor of the Holdeman Mennonite Church. Burial was made in Violett Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Lienhart Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Wakarusa Historical Society.
