MILLER, Ava Louise; of Flint, formerly of Pontiac; age 85; died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at McLaren-Flint. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Charles Peck officiating. Burial in Perry Mount Park Cemetery in Pontiac. Those desiring may make contributions to the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 228. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Ava was born in Flint, Michigan on October 17, 1928, daughter of the late Henry and Virgil (Ray) Murphy. She was raised in Bernie, Missouri and was homecoming queen of her graduating class of Bernie High School. She was a member of Columbia Avenue Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 228. She loved traveling and had traveled to six continents and 47 of the 50 states. She had other interests of sewing, crocheting and crossword puzzles. Ava was an avid mall walker at Genesee Valley Mall. She frequented Bob Evans on Miller Road in Flint, where she had many friends. Mrs. Miller retired from GM Fisher Body in Pontiac and Fisher Body in Livonia after 30 years. Surviving are three children, Michael Miller, Robin Williams and Douglas (Lu) Miller; six grandchildren, Michele Miller, Mary (Dan) Topham, Sarah and Audra Williams, Maggie and Jesse Miller; daughter-in-law, Chom Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh; son, Philip; brothers William Murphy and Edward Murphy; sister, Mary Groh.
