He was born to John Skeels (1715-1801) and Patience Hinman (1722-58). He married Phebe Webster 15 Nov 1775 at Chester, NH. He was a Revolutionary soldier, serving in Capt. Lovewell's company in 1780 (Fisher and Fisher, 1992, p. 474). He was one of the first three families in Sep 1774 to settle in Peacham. He was a selectman for many years. The first mail was carried through Johnson, VT town by John Skeels of Peacham on horseback to St. Albans and back once a week.
