Herman Gustav Theodor Walther was the thirteenth of sixteen children born to country landlord, Christof Ludwig Walther and Dorothea Elise Ulricha Bloch. Dorothea died giving birth to their 16th child, Friedrich Theodor Walther in 1833. His father was a very wealthy man.

Herman Walther was born Sept. 28, 1827 in Gram Sogn,(parish) Frøs Herred, Haderslev Amt, Denmark... see top picture on left.

Herman married on May 5, 1863 to Augusta Margrethe Behrens in Nørre Vinge Kirke (Church), Sønderlyng Herred, Viborg Amt, Denmark.(see second picture ). They were married for 17 years, but near his death they divorced. It was his wife, Augusta, who kept the family together and worked for others catering elaborate events to keep food on the table. Herman was not always there for the family. Although he was raised in a wealthy home, he died in the poor house.

1. Louise (Loise in Danish) Lisette Dorothea Augusta Walther (80 yrs) b. Jan. 27, 1859 married Lars Christian Christensen . She emigrated from Viborg to Parker, South Dakota, USA; Homesteaded near Kenmare, North Dakota. Buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Kenmare, ND. (my husband's great grandmother)

2. Elisabeth Dorthea Ulrikke Walther(75 yrs.) b. Nov. 6, 1865 and christened Dec. 18, 1865 Vorning Church, Viborg, Denmark.d. Jan 16, 1941 Married Ibsen, a locksmith by profession. Their daughter, Marie Julian Ibsen was born about 1885. She married merchant (hardware store owner) Anton Andersen on Sept. 24, 1913 in Sankt Mortens Church, Randers, Denmark. Marie had a son was Stig Andersen was born in Sankt Mortens Parish, Randers. Stig became a salesman at the Randers hardware store.

3. Carl Herman Henrik Walther (80 yrs) b. Jan. 1,1868 Randers DK and christened March 22, 1868 Denmark. Profession: construction worker in Copenhagen . He married Serena and they had 4 children Augusta, Karla, Alvild and Signa Walthers. Son, Alvild William, Sr., emigrated from Copenhagen to New Jersey, the Bronx, NY and then on to Louisiana where Alvild is buried. Alvild, Sr. had 3 children: Joan Walther, Alvild William "Billy", Jr. and Harvey Walther who was in the oil business and retired to Woodlands, TX near Houston.


4. Emma Bertha Betty Walther (80 yrs) b. June 5, 1871 christened Nov. 19, 1871 Skive, Viborg, Denmark. d. Feb. 15, 1952 Emma was an actress. She married Olaf Hansen Sejersen, an actor.(div.) They had 2 children, Olaf and Villy, both bankers by profession.

5. Vilhelm Ejnar Albert Walther b. Nov. 30,1879 Randers, Denmark. Died in England. He was a Mechanical Engineer in London. On June 27, 1909 Vilhelm (William) married Emma Caroline born in Catskill, NY they had a child, Elizabeth Walther, who was a teacher and married to Frederich H. "Llewellyn" Thomas  of Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, Wales

Herman and Augusta divorced in 1880 in Randers, DK after 17 years of marriage. Augusta worked various jobs in manors to support the family.

Augusta maintained contact with her children after she divorced Herman . She died Jan. 15, 1897 in Randers, DK . Herman died destitute in a poor house.
