Mildred Bernice Flagg (Rector)

March 11, 1926

June 18, 2014

Due to complications of Alzheimer's disease, Mildred Bernice Flagg of Ashland Oregon made the journey to join her beloved husband Bob on June 18, 2014.

Bernice was born in Wauneta, Nebraska on March 11, 1926 to Willis and Ida Rector. In her early teen years, the family located to Oregon, where they worked in agriculture, and in 1942, settled in Ashland. On April 31, 1948 she married William "Bob" Flagg and they made their home on the family farm on the outskirts of Ashland. This was to be her home until the time of her death.

In the early years of her marriage, Bernice was a stay at home Mom except during the pear packing season, when she could be found in one of the many packing houses in the valley. In the early 1960's she passed her Civil Service Exam and for the next 29 years was employed by the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier at the Ashland Post Office, retiring in 1988. Bob and Bernice continued to work the family farm in their retirement years. After Bob's death in 1995, Bernice continued to farm the property "because she needed something to do". She actively farmed until early 2013, when the Alzheimer's Disease made it impossible to continue.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Bob as well as her parents and 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by sons Rafe and wife Danielle of Beaverton, OR, Andrew Flagg of Reno, Nevada and John and wife Bonnie of Central Point, OR, four grand children Jennifer, Hadley, Kaysen and Weston and two great-grand children Hunter and Brooke.

Our family would like to extend our profound thanks to Kathy Farmer and the staff at the Ashland Creekside Senior Home and the staff of Asante Hospice Services, who provided the care, compassion, love and understanding that was required during the last months of her life.

A poem for Mom:

Those we love
Don't go away,
they walk beside us
every day …
unseen, unheard
but always near,
still loved,
still missed
and very dear.

Services will be at the Eagle Point National Cemetery on June 30, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Inurnment will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to : American Cancer Societyand the Alzheimer's Association.
