Charles Edward Smith aka Ed Smith was an early Boston tattooer, active from the early 1900s until his death in 1930. Not to be confused with New York Bowery tattoo artist, Denver Ed Smith.

Boston Tattoo History:
Throughout his tattooing career, Ed Smith worked with longstanding Boston Tattoo Artist Otto Mason, Boston Tattoo Artist Frank Howard, Boston Tattoo Artist Capt. Fred McKay and with Tattoo Artist R.L. Beck in New Port, Rhode Island.

“R.L. Beck, the tattooer, with offices in Rochester, N.Y., and Newport, R.I., spent Wednesday of the past week on business in this city. While here he called on his pals, McKay and Smith, at their tattooery on Hanover street.”
