He was born in Pittsylvania County on Oct. 27, 1918, to Joe Starling Wells and Julie Kirks Wells. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillie W. Manning and Lizzie W. Manning; and a brother, Jim Wells.
He was a retired minister and a member of Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church in Axton, where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, Sunday School teacher and other capacities within the church.
Surviving are his wife, Edith Jefferson Wells of the home; two brothers, Clifton Wells and Joe Wells, both of Danville; and a sister, Ruth W. Barker of Charlotte, N.C.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.
Friends will be received at Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and other times at the home.
