BABINSKI, John D. "Jack" (Age 85) Passed peacefully June 25, 2014, at the Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho with his daughter Nora by his side. Jack was born on October 6, 1928, in Grafton, N.D., the son of Dominick and Gertrude Babinski. He was in the ROTC program at North Dakota Agricultural College. In 1952, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He later received masters degrees in both "Instruction in Flying Training" and "Mechanical Engineering." Jack was "the real McCoy" with 27 years of service including jet instructing at Laredo, fighter gunnery, and a combat tour in Viet Nam as a forward air controller. He retired in 1978 as a Colonel with a Distinguished Flying Cross. He then worked in missile safety for TRW at Norton AFB in California. He retired from that job and moved to Careywood, Idaho where he and his wife Joan built their home and have lived for the past 23 years. Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan (Herda) Babinski; brother Allan; seven children: Brian, Phyllis, Nora, Blaise, Mary, Jennifer, and Barbara; eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 30, at Immaculate Conception Church, 614 E 5th Ave, Post Falls, followed by a burial service with full military honors at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls, with a reception to follow in the church basement.
