Son of Nathan Horton and Deborah Baker, husband of Deborah Ann Edwards and father of Harriet Ann (married William Henry Hazen), Gilson H., Floyd B., George Dallas, and Samuel B. Horton.

In 1850, Alfred B. Horton, aged 40, was living in Brookhaven, NY with his wife, Deborah, 35, and children, Gelston, 13, Harriet, 15, Floyd, 9, George, 5, and Samuel Horton, aged 2. Alfred was shown to be a seaman.

In 1860, Alfred B. Horton, aged 49, was living in Brookhaven, NY, post office Patchogue, with his wife, Deborah A. Horton, 44, and children, Gilson H. Horton, 22, Floyd B. Horton, 19, George D. Horton, 15, and Samuel B. Horton, aged 12. Alfred was shown to be a Captain.

In 1865, Alfred B. Horton, aged 55, was living in Brookhaven, NY with wife, Deborah A. Horton, aged 50, and children, George D. Horton, 20, Samuel B. Horton, 18, and Floyd B. Horton, aged 22. Alfred was shown to be a farmer.

In 1869, his son, George Dallas Horton, married Virginia Joseph Gray, on October 17, 1869 in Nansemond, Virginia.

Obituary - Alfred P. Horton, aged 79 years, residing at Patchogue, went to the drugstore and purchased a preparation containing arsenic. Two hours later he was found dead in his room. The coroner's jury rendered a verdict of "death from poison taken by himself."
