Abraham Vandeventer, b. 1842; enlisted in U. S. Army at Westport, Mo., and was shot by a member of the Quantrell band, 1864, in Kansas City. He and his father are buried in old Union Cemetery there.
=====
NOTE:
Union Cemetery opened in 1858 when an epidemic filled the cemeteries in the town of Westport (annexed by Kansas City in 1897) and the town of Kansas (later renamed Kansas City). The new cemetery was located roughly half-way between Westport and Kansas. The union of these two communities in this project inspired the name Union Cemetery. Since the Vandeventers resided in Westport at the time of John's death in 1856, it is likely he was originally buried either in the Westport Cemetery or on a family property in the Westport area, and his remains were later moved to Union Cemetery. The Westport Cemetery was abandoned after all the remains were relocated but we are uncertain when and where all the remains were moved.
