Cecelia Rose (Shorette) Thomas, 61, passed into God"s Kingdom on Saturday, (September 11, 2004) after a long struggle with cancer. She was born March 2, 1943, in Island Falls, ME, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Winnifred Lou (Leavitt) Shorette.
She attended schools in Island Falls, ME, Wallingford and Meriden, and graduated from Platt High School in 1961. On her graduation day, she accepted the proposal of marriage from her fiance. She enjoyed travelling to the various duty stations of her Navy husband. She loved having the family around her. Over the years, she and her husband had taken in various family members to care for them. For years, she involved herself in making ceramics.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Raymond L. Thomas, Jr. of Plantsville; a son, Raymond L. Thomas, III and his wife, Heather of Plantsville; sisters, Joan and her husband Delbert Higgins of Patten, ME, Annette Rogers of Southington, Shirley and her husband Robert Seymour of Wallingford; a granddaughter, Natalie Ray Thomas of Plantsville; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, two daughters, Linda Ann in 1967 and Janet Marie in 1980, two brothers, Lawrence Shorette of Brunswick, ME and Dennis Shorette of Plainville, and her twin sister, Gloria Daigle of Bristol. She was a member of the Baha'i Faith since 1980. A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 12:30 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in St. Laurent's Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
